Who Does Not Need a Visa
Citizens of European Union (EU) countries, as well as nationals of Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Croatia, Israel, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and most countries in North and South America, may enter Portugal without a visa. A valid passport or national identity card is sufficient for entry. If in doubt, participants should contact the nearest Portuguese Consulate or Embassy well in advance.

Passport Validity Requirement
– Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area.
– Passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.
Note: Some border authorities may request additional validity; applying well in advance is recommended.

Current Member States of the Schengen Area
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland*, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein*, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway*, Poland, Portugal, Romania**, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland*.

Who Needs a Visa
Participants from regions not listed above must apply for a Schengen visa. Once issued by any Schengen state, a valid visa permits travel within the Schengen area (including Portugal) for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Visa Application Guidelines
– Applications should be submitted to the Portuguese Embassy or Consulate, or another Schengen representation as applicable.
– Standard processing time: up to 15 calendar days; in exceptional cases, up to 45 days may be required.
– Applications may be submitted up to 6 months before travel and no later than 15 days prior. For congress participants, it is recommended to apply at least 4 months before the event.
